SORDI Participates in Magan Forum on Public-Private Partnerships in Somalia

The Somali Research and Development Institute (SORDI) took part in the Magan Forum's high-level panel, where discussions centred on investment opportunities between the Somali government and business leaders. The Private Sector Partnerships for Health (PSPH) project, led by SORDI in partnership with DT Global and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, was highlighted as an example of how public-private partnerships can drive progress in the health sector. During the discussion, the PSPH Project Director noted that the private sector accounts for an estimated 60% of total health expenditure in Somalia, underscoring its significant role in addressing gaps in healthcare access and quality. He welcomed the growing interest from the public sector in partnering with private businesses, and highlighted the importance of trust and sustained engagement between the two sectors in building a more effective health system. The forum was attended by members of parliament, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Federal Republic of Somalia led by Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, business leaders including the Senior Administration of the Somali Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and civil society representatives. Prime Minister Barre expressed appreciation for the forum, noting that bringing government and entrepreneurs together builds the confidence needed to advance Somalia's development. The Chairman of the Somali Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Gabaire, added that joint investment between government and entrepreneurs, supported by Somalia's public-private partnership law, holds significant potential across sectors including health, education, and infrastructure.
