Advancing Maternal and Newborn Health in Somalia: Research Findings and Dialogue

SORDI hosted a groundbreaking dissemination event on December 4, 2023, in Mogadishu, bringing together key stakeholders including the Somali Federal Ministry of Health, the UK government, and international and national organisations to showcase research findings and engage in dialogue on maternal and newborn health (MNH) in crisis-affected contexts. A series of research studies conducted by the EQUAL consortium was presented, including a political economy analysis examining MNH prioritisation in Somalia, a rapid assessment of midwifery schools, and an ongoing community MNH programme and evaluation. Following the presentations, interactive roundtable discussions allowed participants to explore the research findings and their implications in greater depth. The event underscored the importance of evidence-based research in shaping policy and practice, with outcomes and recommendations intended to guide future efforts to improve MNH outcomes for mothers and newborns in crisis-affected settings
