SORDI and Appleseed Launch Healthcare Education Platform in Somalia

SORDI and Appleseed Education have launched a new digital platform designed to help scale health professional education in Somalia, addressing a healthcare workforce shortage estimated at 18 million professionals worldwide. This shortage continues to limit the health sector's ability to deliver essential services and hinders progress toward Universal Health Coverage. The platform, introduced by SORDI and Appleseed Education, is the first of its kind designed to help universities scale health professional schools cost-effectively and systematically. It provides assessment and planning tools, an online learning platform, webinars, school document libraries, group procurement services, student dropout prevention initiatives, career counselling, and graduate recruitment support. The platform was formally launched in Somalia on 18 April 2024, at an event bringing together education leaders from across the country. Professor Mohamed Mohamud Hassan (Biday), Rector of Benadir University and President of the Association of Somali Universities, and Professor Mohamed Yusuf Hassan, Chairman of the Somalia National Health Professional Council, attended the launch and expressed strong interest in adopting the platform at their institutions.
