SORDI Participates in Gavi 6.0 Strategy Portfolio Reprioritization and Reprogramming Meetings in Nairobi

SORDI participated in the Gavi 6.0 Strategy Portfolio Reprioritization and Reprogramming meetings, held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 28 September to 2 October 2026. The first three days focused on Somalia, followed by two days dedicated to Somaliland, with SORDI participating throughout.
The meetings brought together Gavi, the Gates Foundation, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), WHO, UNICEF, State Directors General and EPI Managers, civil society organisations, and international partners to review immunization priorities following Gavi's budget cuts and determine how best to use the reduced funding.
Alongside the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG), SORDI shared findings from the completed Vaccine Prioritization (VPOP) exercise, with NITAG presenting recommendations on selected vaccines and their proposed introduction timelines. SORDI also presented district and activity reprioritization jointly with UNICEF.
Federal Member State teams then worked in groups to refine their earlier priorities and present their updated selections.
With less funding available, the meetings focused on making difficult, evidence-based choices — prioritizing districts and activities to protect immunization services and reach children still missing out on vaccination.
