Hayat Diagnostics, in collaboration with the Somali Research and Development Institute (SORDI), which is part of the Private Sector Partnership in Health (PSPH), recently organized a strategic networking event at Hayat Hotel in Berbera. This initiative aimed to introduce advanced diagnostic services and establish strong partnerships with key healthcare stakeholders, reinforcing efforts to improve access to high-quality medical diagnostics and reduce patient referrals outside the region.
The event brought together 86 participants from a range of healthcare institutions, including representatives from Berbera Referral Hospital, the Regional Health Office, Abby Hospital—the only private hospital in Berbera—and several private clinics. While male attendees comprised the majority, 11 female healthcare professionals contributed to discussions, reflecting the importance of inclusive healthcare development in Somaliland.
Participants recognized the value of Hayat Diagnostics’ tools and reports, emphasizing their potential to strengthen healthcare services in Berbera. Many stakeholders underscored the urgent need for a dedicated Hayat Diagnostics facility in the city to improve access to quality diagnostic services and minimize the necessity of patient transfers to Hargeisa, Wajale, and Ethiopia. The discussions also highlighted the growing role of private ambulance services in facilitating patient transportation and the importance of localized diagnostic solutions in ensuring timely medical care.

SORDI, through its involvement in PSPH, played a crucial role in facilitating collaboration and dialogue among healthcare providers. By supporting events such as this, SORDI continues to advance the mission of PSPH to enhance healthcare accessibility and build sustainable partnerships between private and public institutions.
Key recommendations arising from the event included the establishment of a Hayat Diagnostics facility in Berbera, strengthening collaborations between healthcare providers, exploring partnerships with private ambulance service providers, and organizing follow-up engagements to maintain momentum and track progress. These actions will significantly reduce the need for external referrals, enhance diagnostic service availability within Berbera, and contribute to better healthcare outcomes for the community.
This networking event reinforced SORDI’s commitment to supporting healthcare innovation within the PSPH framework. By fostering strategic collaborations and advocating for sustainable diagnostic solutions, SORDI remains instrumental in advancing medical accessibility and strengthening healthcare infrastructure across Somaliland.
