Heegan Multispecialty & Teaching Hospital Officially Inaugurated

Access to quality healthcare is a cornerstone of community well-being and development. In Somaliland, the private healthcare sector plays a critical role in delivering essential medical services, bridging gaps where public healthcare faces constraints. One of the latest milestones in this journey is the successful inauguration of Heegan Multispecialty & Teaching Hospital in Borama—an achievement driven by strategic planning, private sector investment, and institutional collaboration.
With support from the Private Sector Partnership in Health (PSPH), Heegan Hospital has evolved from four independent clinics into a modern, well-equipped facility, designed to meet the growing healthcare demands of the Awdal region. The hospital’s strengthened business model, enhanced digital presence, and expanded medical services highlight the importance of forward-thinking strategies in improving healthcare accessibility.

How PSPH Supports Healthcare Providers

PSPH, implemented by the Somali Research and Development Institute (SORDI) in collaboration with DT Global and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), is committed to empowering healthcare providers. Through this initiative, PSPH offers advisory services in business model development, branding, strategic planning, and service delivery optimization. These interventions enable private health facilities to improve patient care, streamline operations, and expand their reach.
By facilitating partnerships, providing specialized training, and supporting mergers that strengthen institutional frameworks, PSPH ensures that private healthcare providers can thrive in Somaliland’s dynamic healthcare landscape.

Driving Collaboration for a Healthier Future

The recent inauguration of Heegan Multispecialty & Teaching Hospital exemplifies the impact of collective effort in advancing healthcare. Led by Somaliland Vice President H.E. Mohamed Aw Ali, the event brought together key stakeholders, reinforcing the role of collaboration in transforming healthcare access. With private healthcare facilities investing in improved infrastructure and service expansion, the future of Somaliland’s health sector looks promising.
SORDI, through PSPH, remains dedicated to fostering partnerships, supporting private healthcare providers, and enabling impactful healthcare solutions. As Somaliland continues to embrace innovation and investment in health services, PSPH stands as a key driver in strengthening healthcare accessibility across the region.
