

On May 1, 2025, Kismaayo, the capital of Jubaland State, witnessed the successful launch of Kaaliye Care, a groundbreaking health insurance product designed to make quality healthcare more affordable and accessible for Somali families. Organized by Baraka Insurance in collaboration with the Somali Research and Development Institute (SORDI) through the Private Sector Partnerships in Health (PSPH) project, this event marked a crucial step toward improving healthcare coverage across the country.
Kaaliye Care aims to bridge the gap between communities and essential medical services by providing cost-effective and sustainable insurance solutions tailored to Somalia’s mass market. The initiative reflects a growing recognition of the vital role health insurance plays in strengthening social protection and ensuring financial security for families seeking medical care.
The launch event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), telecommunications companies, business associations, civil society organizations, government ministries, and agencies. Their participation underscored the importance of multi-sector collaboration in advancing healthcare accessibility.


Prominent government officials and influential speakers attended the event, including representatives from the Ministry of Health, Jubaland State, Ministry of Women and Social Affairs, the Mayor of Kismaayo, the Jubaland Chamber of Commerce, Parliament representatives, and distinguished civil scholars and experts. Their engagement reaffirmed the commitment of both public and private sector leaders to support initiatives that improve healthcare affordability and coverage.
The launch of Kaaliye Care in Kismaayo represents a pivotal milestone in expanding health insurance coverage across Somalia.
