On April 14th, 2025, SORDI, in collaboration with the Private Sector Partnerships in Health (PSPH) project and the Somali Medical Association (SMA), successfully delivered a transformative Basic Life Support (BLS) training. This initiative was designed to equip healthcare professionals with the critical skills required to handle medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, and airway obstruction, ensuring improved patient outcomes and fostering a culture of preparedness and excellence in emergency care.
The training provided an in-depth combination of theoretical knowledge and practical applications, empowering participants with the confidence and competencies necessary to deliver life-saving interventions. Thirty healthcare professionals, representing private health facilities and Caafinet members, participated in the session. Led by esteemed facilitators—Dr. Mohamed Muktar (Emergency and Critical Care Specialist), Dr. Abdirahman (Anesthesiologist and Critical Care Specialist), and Dr. Kadra (Public Relations Secretary of SMA)—the program emphasized hands-on practice to ensure attendees were well-equipped to manage critical situations.

In addition to skill-building, the BLS training served as a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange among participants. By sharing experiences and best practices, the attendees strengthened their collective ability to respond to emergencies while fostering relationships across private healthcare institutions. The session further aimed to align care standards with national and international safety protocols, ensuring consistent and credible healthcare delivery across PSPH-supported facilities.
Participants reported significant improvements in their understanding and execution of BLS procedures. Many expressed a newfound confidence in their ability to respond effectively to emergency scenarios. However, their feedback also emphasized the need for advanced life support training to further develop their expertise and readiness for complex situations. This recommendation highlights the importance of continuous professional development and underscores the commitment of SORDI and PSPH to enhancing healthcare quality in Somalia.
