Advancing Maternal and Newborn Health in Somalia:Research Findings and Dialogue

SORDI hosted a groundbreaking dissemination event held on December 4, 2023, at the RA in Mogadishu. The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Somali Federal Ministry of Health, the UK government, and international and national organizations, to showcase research findings and engage in a constructive dialogue regarding maternal and newborn health (MNH) in crisis-affected contexts.

A series of research studies conducted by the EQUAL consortium, focusing on critical aspects of MNH in Somalia was presented. The studies included a political economy analysis examining MNH prioritization in Somalia, a rapid assessment of midwifery schools, and an ongoing community MNH program and evaluation. The presentations served as a foundation for the ensuing roundtable discussions

Following the research presentations, interactive roundtable discussions were held to delve deeper into the research findings and their implications. Participants engaged in open and collaborative conversations, sharing their expertise and perspectives on the presented research.

The “Advancing MNH in Somalia: Research Dissemination and Dialogue” event provided a platform for stakeholders to come together, share knowledge, and collaborate on advancing MNH in Somalia. The event highlighted the significance of evidence-based research in shaping policy and practice. The outcomes and recommendations generated during the event will guide future efforts to improve MNH outcomes and ensure the well-being of mothers and newborns in crisis-affected contexts.
