The Somali Research and Development Institute (SORDI) is fully committed to enhancing healthcare in Somalia. Recently, Baraka Insurance achieved a significant milestone by introducing Kaaliye Care health insurance, the country’s first affordable mass-market health insurance product. The launch event in Mogadishu garnered widespread attention, with notable figures such as Somalia’s Federal Minister of Health, the Ministry of Youth, NGO representatives, corporate delegates, and members of civil society in attendance.
This groundbreaking initiative holds immense importance for the advancement of Somalia’s healthcare system and brings us closer to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
SORDI actively supports such transformative projects. Through our SDC-funded Private Sector Partnerships in Health (PSPH) project, we’ve provided crucial assistance to Baraka. Utilizing an approach focused on sustainability and market systems development, we’ve empowered Baraka to invest their own resources into this initiative. Our partners in this endeavor include Dt Global and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, based in Switzerland. This collaboration underscores SORDI’s commitment to fostering innovation, resilience, and knowledge management within Somalia’s healthcare sector.
