EQUAL Research Dissemination Event: Midwifery Employment and Community MNH Scale-Up

On 15 April 2026, SORDI co-hosted the EQUAL Research Dissemination Event at the Peace Hotel in Mogadishu, in partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health, with funding from UK International Development. Themed \"Unlocking Public-Private Partnership Pathways for Midwifery Employment and Community MNH Scale-Up,\" the half-day event brought together policymakers from the Ministry of Health and the Office of the Prime Minister, private health associations, academic institutions, researchers, and community representatives to translate five years of EQUAL consortium research into actionable strategies for Somalia's health policies and programmes. Discussions focused on four priority areas: strengthening midwifery education and workforce development; expanding community-based maternal and newborn health services through Community Health Worker-led models; building sustainable public-private partnerships to support midwifery graduate absorption; and improving governance and financing arrangements for MNH services in fragile and conflict-affected settings.
