Advancing Midwifery Education in Somalia: Stakeholder Validation Meeting

On 20 September 2023, SORDI organised a validation meeting for midwifery stakeholders to review and finalise the findings of a rapid assessment of pre-service midwifery education in the Banaadir and Galgaduud regions of Somalia. The assessment examined the extent to which midwifery pre-service education programmes meet national and global standards, with the aim of identifying recommendations for improvement. The meeting brought together representatives from midwifery training institutions, the Federal Ministry of Health's midwifery focal point, the Somali Midwifery Association, UNFPA, WHO, and other relevant organisations. Participants reviewed the assessment findings in detail and provided feedback that informed the final report, which underpins SORDI's published study on pre-service midwifery education in conflict-affected settings.
